Kever Rachel - Tomb of Rachel South

Over 3000 years ago, the Matriarch Rachel died in childbirth and was buried on the side of the road. Ever since, the grave of Rachel Imeinu (our mother Rachel) has been a place of Jewish pilgrimage particularly in times of pain and struggle. Rachel famously struggled with childlessness for many years before the birth of Joseph. As such, her grave has become a place for women struggling with fertility to pray for children.

Today there is a synagogue as well as mikvah and kollel located at the site. The Kollel recites the entire book of Tehillim everyday and there is a free, 24 hour hotline for anyone in the world to call should the require prayers said at the grave. Due to heavy traffic, on the day of Rachel’s yahrtziet, the site is closed off to private vehicles.
